Gion Festival is the largest festival in Kyoto, with various events taking place over the month of July.

July 15 and 16 is called Yoiyama, when floats and food stalls line the streets, and many people walk around in yukata (summer kimono).

On the 17th, Yamaboko Junko (float procession) will be held from Shijo-Karasuma to Shinmachi-Oike.

The festival was canceled in 2020 for the first time in 58 years due to the expansion of COVID-19, and was also canceled again in 2021.

At night, Shijo-dori Street becomes a pedestrian precinct (vehicle-free).
